Quite often many wonder why there are some physicians that are M.D.s while others are D.O.s. Apart from extra training in musculoskeletal manipulation and emphasis on holistic preventative philosophy of treating the human body, both degrees are physicians that practice in all specialties. There is no difference in the scope of practice.
Choosing a family physician should be more than considering which degree is better, because they are the same. Instead, it should be about the quality of care, reputation of the physician, and compatibility between the doctor and the patient. After all going to a physician that you cannot relate to or converse with defeats the whole purpose of establishing a relationship.
Bottom line is that you must choose a physician that has the best credentials and one that you feel comfortable with.
